But my main message today is towards those people that already run a network marketing business.

Evaluate where you are and where you see yourself going in your network marketing company in the near future and long-term. There’s been a lot of talk the past few years of branding yourself online as an expert and someone who provides valuable content in order to succeed in network marketing. “You Inc.” has been promoted as being much more important than the company you are partnered with: you know, the one that manufacturers and sells the products, pays you and allows the very opportunity that you are marketing to exist. Someone on the outside looking in could see why your network marketing company is just as important as your ability to brand yourself, yet network marketers often lose sight of this fact after months or years of reading online articles and training to the contrary.

The compensation plan does matter. How long they’ve been in business, their standing with the Better Business Bureau, the quality of their products, their profitability, their corporate leadership: these things do matter a great deal, no matter what any online “guru” would have you believe.

Unless you want to have a network marketing career where you jump around from one company to the next, with no clear plan of action and losing money at every stop, then I suggest you do your due diligence in picking the right network marketing company at the outset. Everything else will fall into place later, and you’ll be much better positioned for long-term success.
