One of the most important lessons I’ve learned in business and in life in the past 4 and a half years in that you become like who you associate with most. Hang around broke, negative people, and you are likely to be broke and negative yourself. Associate often with forward-thinking, positive, intelligent people, and watch yourself grow. It’s inevitable. It’s a law.
I’m not saying to shun people, or to not give people a chance to change. What I am saying is if you have some unhealthy associations in your life, and you want to succeed in network marketing or any type of business or purposeful career, then I suggest that you be very careful with the people you hang around for the majority of your day.
Iron sharpens iron. Like begets like. You’ve probably heard it all before, but trust me from experience, you are absolutely destined to become like those you associate with. So now you make the choice, and this decision will have an enormous impact on your future whether you like it or not. Choose to be brought down on a sinking ship, or held down by the people around you who are going nowhere in life and content anyway, or choose to be lifted up to a higher standard and put yourself on the path to personal success by associating with a group of like-minded individuals. I highly recommend The Four Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferris for all entrepreneurs, aspiring business owners and especially network marketing business owners. Although Ferris doesn’t reference network marketing specifically in the book, there are many tips that he gives which could be applied to growing a successful home based business.
A lot of the things Ferris describes in the book are clever ways to scale your work down and outsource menial tasks overseas in order to get down to just 4-10 hours of actual work per week. That’s all well and good, but network marketing is even better. After you get your business established and your network built to a certain level, residual income kicks in and you could scale your work week down to 4 hours or less if you like.
Overall, I suggest you read The Four Hour Work Week if you are an ambitious person that maybe thinks a little bit different than the masses and is open-minded to trying new things to improve your work life. I think most network marketers will enjoy it and find it beneficial for that very reason.

There are a lot of things out there that can distract you from what you’re trying to accomplish. Whether it be sports, entertainment, politics, or that day job that you just know is not your long-term career, there are countless distractions that, if you let them, can derail you from even coming close to reaching your ultimate goal and purpose in life.
Well, as of yesterday, the Superbowl is now set. There’s only one game left in America’s most popular sport. It’s the off-season in baseball. Basketball has yet to reach the playoffs in both the pros and college. There’s really not much happening on the entertainment front to speak of. The weather is freezing cold, at least in the northern half of the country, and many people are content to just stay home for the next couple months until the temperature starts to go back up. What I’m trying to say here is that, although we as Americans always have a ton of things that could potentially distract us from what’s really important, there may not be a better time of year to capture people’s attention from now until the end of March.
For home business owners, this is the time to get to work because you will never have a more captive audience of prospects than you do right now. People have less distractions, less excuses and more time to think about their financial situation now than any other time of year. With all of the people who are unemployed, under-employed and just flat-out unhappy with their current job, combined with the cold weather and lack of distractions, it’s prime-time for growing your list of prospects and laying the foundation for the rest of the year in terms of building your network marketing business.
For those that have yet to start their own home based business, I will give it to you straight. Before I do that though, let me ask you a few questions, and be honest with yourself when you answer.
Are you seriously happy with where your life is at right now?
Are you satisfied, on a daily basis, with your job or small business? Honestly, do you love what you do, and would you do it even if you didn’t get paid, assuming you had enough money and necessities from other means?
Do you know of a better solution that could offer you more time and money and a better lifestyle than a home based business or network marketing?
If you’ve answered these questions the way I think you have (if you’ve been completely honest with yourself) then it’s time to make some drastic changes. Am I right? I mean, you could keep doing what you’re doing, but then again, that will just keep getting you what you’re currently getting, which is more than likely, not what you really want out of life. You want to be happy, and in order for that to happen, you are going to need a sufficient amount of money, and the time to enjoy that money and do the things you really want to do on a daily basis, rather than go to work for someone else doing a job that you’re not really passionate about.
So while the conditions might be perfect to start your home business right now, honestly, the conditions are ALWAYS perfect. No matter what time of year it is, no matter what the weather’s like or what kind of sports or entertainment are on TV, if you really want to be successful and make meaningful change, it comes down to desire and making a clear-cut decision to do it right now. In other words, cut the crap and start to open your mind to one of the very few options you have to create financial freedom in your life. If you’ve been wavering, or skeptical, or ignorant of the opportunity that awaits you if you just reached out and grabbed it, then it’s time to WAKE UP! Stop making excuses, and start developing a backbone and making strong DECISIONS. Make the decision to start a home business and to achieve financial independence with that home business. It will be the most fulfilling thing you can do in this life to earn money, and it will buy your life back in terms of free time and lifestyle choices. Continue to sit on the sidelines, or make excuses, or wander off and get caught up in more useless distractions (e.g. TV, entertainment, etc.) and suffer the consequences.
I don’t want to hear any more complaints from people about their lives if they’re not willing to invest in themselves through a home business. Seriously, if you’re not willing to make the decision to change, put forth the time and effort necessary to succeed, and come up with a minuscule amount of start-up capital to turn your life around, then I can’t do anything for you, and no one else can either. You’re hopeless, and you deserve whatever you’re handed in life in terms of finances and lifestyle.
Personally, I am now more resolved than ever to build my network marketing business and to assist others who want to start their own home based business to become profitable and create the life they truly deserve. I’ve made the decision to create a lifestyle for myself, and to help as many people as possible create that awesome lifestyle as well. I hope other home business owners will be inspired by this post to take action now and really start to build your business, no matter what company you’re affiliated with. As for everyone else, I sincerely hope you’ve made the decision by now to take control of your financial future and finally get on board with a leader and business team that are going somewhere. It’s time to experience success and true happiness. It’s time to start a home based business.
